Halesi- Mahadev Helicopter Yatra with Mukti Yatra, Halesi-Maratika Caves are located next to the village of Mahadevasthan, in the Khotang District of eastern Nepal, 3,100 ft. – 4,734 ft. above sea level. The cave and temple are about 185 km south west of Mount Everest. The temple is a venerated pilgrimage site for Hindus, Buddhists and Kirat.
Halesi- Mahadev Helicopter Yatra with Mukti Yatra, Halesi Mahadev, is a sacred temple for both Hindu and Buddhist. It is believed that inside the temple, the Halesi cave has been used as a dwelling for 6000 yrs. Lord Shiva hide there when hiding from the demon Bhasmasur. The location of the cave is between the holy rivers of Dudh Kosi and Sun Kosi River.
There are a number of caves in the area but the main cave of pilgrimage is the Maratika Treasury Cave. It is here that Guru Rinpoche, with his consort Mandarava, achieved immortal life through the practice of Amitayus. The caves of Maratika are mentioned in Tibetan literature from the twelfth century onward.
